The 100 Years of Women Scholarship Award was established in 1992 to honor a current UCONN undergraduate or graduate student (who will be enrolled for the Fall 2011 semester) or high school senior planning to enroll in the University of Connecticut, who has demonstrated a commitment to women’s issues through service to their community or school.
To apply, the applicant must:
- complete and submit an application form,
- include an unofficial transcript, and
- two letters of recommendation from individuals who can comment on their commitment and service to women’s issues.

Congratulations to the 2011 Recipients of The Westchester/Greater Connecticut Chapter of the NBMBAA Scholarship!!!

The National Black MBA Association of Westchester/Greater Connecticut Chapter had their 5th Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala this past Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at the Hiltons in Stamford, CT. A total of 16 scholarships were dedicated to undergraduates within Rockland, Dutchess or Westchester County of New York or Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven County of Connecticut. Seven out of sixteen of these students attended UConn!
The NBMBAA offered scholarships to outstanding minority students pursuing undergraduate and graduate management/business degrees, while demonstrating strong leadership abilities and a commitment to their communities. This year the program awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 for undergrads and $2,000 for master's candidates!

Casualty Actuary Society Trust Scholarship Program!!!
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the scholarship is to further students’ interest in the property/casualty actuarial profession and to encourage the pursuit of the CAS designations.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility: You must meet all requirements to be considered
- U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident visa
- Currently attending a U.S. or Canadian college or university as a full-time student and continuing as a full time student at a U.S. or Canadian college or university in the 2011-2012 academic year
- Applicants must have sat for at least one actuarial exam by March of 2011
- Applicants should demonstrate high scholastic achievement and strong interest in the casualty actuarial profession, mathematical aptitude, and communication skills.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not yet won the CAS Trust Scholarship
AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of individual merit. The CAS Trust Scholarship Program will award up to three $2,000 scholarships to deserving students for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program Summer 2011 Application Information
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Gilman Scholarship Program, we are proud to announce the expansion of our summer awards to include all academic majors. We anticipate this will be our most competitive cycle ever so please encourage your students to seek your guidance and utilize all available Gilman resources.
Summer 2011 online applications will open in early January and are due March 1, 2011.
For students applying for any academic term (Academic Year, Fall, Spring or Summer) please find the eligibility requirements below:

AmeriCorps Apprenticeship Program: Public Allies CT- For Graduating Seniors in High School & College!!!!!

Public Allies Connecticut is an AmeriCorps Program designed to develop the next generation of community and nonprofit leaders. We are currently seeking dedicated, service-minded young adults to begin 10-month paid apprenticeships in nonprofit organizations around Connecticut, with positions available in the greater New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport areas. The next class of Allies will begin in September 2011, but the application process starts now!
Our Allies change their lives and our community through a rigorous AmeriCorps program that combines full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofits with intensive skills training, active community-building projects, personalized coaching, and critical reflection. Allies will be placed in nonprofit organizations that address the following priority areas:
Education: Unmet educational needs within communities especially those that help children and youth achieve success in school and increase high school graduation
Healthy Futures: Unmet health needs within communities including access to health care, disease prevention and health promotion initiatives, and health literacy
Economic Opportunity: Unmet needs relating to economic opportunity for economically disadvantaged individuals within communities including financial literacy, housing assistance, job training, and nutritional assistance
Clean/Energy Environment: Unmet energy-efficiency and environmental needs within communities
Veterans: Unmet needs of veterans, members of the Armed Forces who are on active duty, and family members of deployed military personnel and engage veterans in service.
Allies serve 4 full-time days per week at a nonprofit placement where they work to assist one of the aforementioned priority areas, and attend all-day trainings each Friday with other Allies from around the state. Trainings are geared toward giving Allies the knowledge and skills they'll need to pursue a nonprofit career, such as grant writing, public speaking, community development, and teamwork.
Allies are passionate and diverse social change makers. The majority of our Allies are from our local community, and they share a deep commitment to strengthening Connecticut. Alumni continue on to careers in the nonprofit and public sectors, and about 95% of Alumni say they would participate again if they could.
Allies receive:
- a living stipend of $16,500 (gross) over ten months,
- an AmeriCorps education award of $5,350 upon completion of the program,
- valuable professional development training, and
- free basic health insurance.
Student loan forbearance & interest payment is available for eligible federal student loans. Childcare is also available if applicable.

Yale Pre-MBA Program for Juniors, Seniors and Recent Graduates
The Yale School of Management Pre-MBA Leadership Program is a highly selective, two-week summer program aimed at current college sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent college graduates from populations typically under-represented in management education.
We introduce you to the fundamentals of management education and give you the tools necessary to hone your individual leadership skills.
- The Pre-MBA Leadership Program is tailored toward current sophomore and junior undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds and those from non-traditional pre-MBA academic tracks. We strongly encourage students from the liberal arts, science and engineering fields to apply.
- June 12-25, 2011
- The Program will be held on the Yale School of Management Campus in New Haven, Connecticut. Students will stay in a Yale dorm with fellow Pre-MBA Leadership Program attendees and attend classes in the Yale School of Management facilities.
- Tuition, all program materials, housing, and most meals will be covered by the Yale School of Management. Students will be required to send a $250 deposit in order to enroll in the program, but the full amount will be refunded upon successful completion of the Program.

NEW! AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students!!!
The AICPA Minority Scholarship awards outstanding minority students to encourage their selection of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. Funding is provided by the AICPA Foundation, with contributions from the New Jersey Society of CPAs and Robert Half International. For four decades, this program has provided over $14 .6 million in scholarships to approximately 8,000 accounting scholars.
Scholarship Amount/Payments
Recipients receive individual awards of $3,000 per academic year. Scholarship aid may be used only for the payment of expenses that directly relate to obtaining an accounting education. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the student's financial aid office on behalf of the student at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

Application Instructions
All applicants must submit a completed scholarship application by April 1, 2011. Students selected to advance to the second round will be notified via email by May 1, 2011. Round 2 applicants must provide additional documentation.
A student may save his/her application and make changes up to April 1, 2011. Once the applicant clicks the “submit application” button, no further changes can be made to the application. The AICPA will confirm receipt of an applicant’s completed application via email within one week of submission.
Renewal Process
The Minority Scholarship is a renewable award; however, renewals are neither automatic nor guaranteed. Students who wish to renew their scholarship award must complete an application the following spring.
Review/Selection Process
Completed applications will be reviewed and ranked by a scholarship selection task force. Recipient selection is based on academic achievement; demonstration of leadership and volunteerism; and overall commitment to becoming a licensed CPA professional.

All applicants will be notified of final selection by August 1, 2011.

NEW! National Sales Network (NSN) Scholarship Program!!!!
The National Sales Network (NSN) Scholarship Program awards scholarships annually to Juniors and/or Seniors pursing a degree at a College/University. All scholarship award winners will be notified on or before May 1st, 2011. Presentation of scholarships will be made during the NSN National Conference.
Scholarship includes:
- $1,000 Scholarship
- One Year Membership to a local NSN Chapter
- Interviews with select NSN National Conference Career Fair Companies
- All expense paid trip and complimentary admission to the NSN Annual National Conference & Career Fair
Scholarships are offered to female students in the name of NSN Board Member Agnes C. Lightfoot and to male students in the name of NSN Board Member John M. Watson, Jr.
About Agnes Lightfoot:
Agnes Lightfoot has been part of National Sales Network since its inception in 1987 New Jersey. She worked in various capacities from registrar to data base manager for the organization. She was the first National Secretary, the first NSN Meeting Planner and the first Editor of the Annual Conference Journal. Agnes is a member of the Board of Directors of NSN and periodically performs the role of Secretary for the Board as well as Chairperson for the NSN Scholarship Program.
About John Watson, Jr.:
John Watson is a member of the original team that created and organized NSN in 1987. He is the co-founder and the first President of the Chicago Chapter. John is currently the Chairman of the Board for the Chicago Chapter. He is a founding member of both the NSN Board of Directors and the national office, where he currently serves as VP of Operations.
Scholarship Qualifications:
- All Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application. Business majors are preferred, however, all majors will be considered. In this case your desire to pursue a career in sales and/or marketing is most important.
- Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and minimum 3.0 GPA in your major. An unofficial transcript is acceptable with the application. Official transcript will be required before scholarship is awarded.
- Current copy of their resume.
- Two letters of recommendations. The letters may be from faculty members, advisors, or employment supervisors.
- Applicants must submit a minimum 300 word typed essay on one of the following topics:
- “What are your greatest challenges entering the world of corporate Sales and how you will handle them?”
- “Why do you feel sales is the right career for you?”
- Deadline to apply for the NSN scholarship is April 1st, 2011.

The Entrepreneurship Foundation presents their 2011 Spring Connecticut Collegiate Business Plan Competition!!!!!
Entry Deadline: April 13, 2011 (Finalists posted 5 pm April 18 at The Entrepreneurship Foundation Website.
Finals: Friday, April 22, 2011, 1:30 pm at the New Haven Lawn Club Three-minute PowerPoint presentations plus Q&A. Students may not interact with judges or distribute materials until the timer starts.
Business Plan Competition Prizes: All entrants will receive candid feedback from a business financing expert on their on-line executive summary. The schools of the top prize winners in each category will receive a trophy. Press releases announcing the finalists and winners will be sent to media. Grants will be awarded for the best…
- Personal business plan - $1000 (unrestricted, awarded at finals).
- Venture business plan - $1000 (unrestricted, awarded at finals). (Judges will determine the category (personal versus venture business**).
- An additional $7500 will be awarded as start-up grant(s) to one or more companies judged most likely to succeed. Grants will be awarded to reimburse costs of actually launching the company in Connecticut. Grants may be accessed at any time, but no later than one year after graduation of team leader.
- A $500 unrestricted grant and trophy will be conferred for the “Best Presentation,” awarded by Cliff Ennico.
- One finalist will be awarded six months free rent at a CTech Incubator operated by Connecticut Innovations. (See www.ctech-ct.org for more information about CTech incubators.)
- One finalist will be invited to pitch to the Angel Investor Forum (www.angelinvestorforum.com)
Eligibility Requirements:
- The team leader and primary presenter must be a student at a Connecticut college or university during the current academic year. (Entries may be submitted by individuals or teams.) In keeping with the spirit of the competition to foster entrepreneurship, neither plans written for outside companies as student projects nor plans written on behalf of a company not student-owned and conceived are eligible.
- Students that made it to the Finals (but did not receive a cash award) in a prior year or semester are eligible to compete again.
- Teams must have a faculty adviser (from the submitting institution) who sanctions the entry.
- New or relatively new business. (Enterprises with year-to-date sales in excess of $50,000 are ineligible.)
To Enter: The application may be accessed at The Entrepreneurship Foundation Website. The first step will be to create a user name and password. This will enable you and your team members to return to revise your draft prior to submitting. The judges will only consider information contained in the online application. Do not mail or email supplemental material.
***Personal businesses are typically small, serve a limited market, and serve small businesses or consumers. Venture enterprises are generally higher risk, take longer to start up and require more capital but have higher potential returns. This is often a judgment call as many businesses have characteristics of both. The decision of the judges is final.
60-Second Individual COMMUNITY COLLEGE Elevator Pitch Competition. Spring only.
$500 prize for the best presentation by a community college student. Plus trophy for the school. There is no preliminary round but contestants must pre-register through a faculty adviser.

High School Students Only: National Achievement Scholarship Program
The National Achievement® Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students.
Black students may enter both the National Achievement Program and the National Merit® Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and meeting other published requirements for participation. The two annual programs are conducted concurrently but operated and funded separately.
A student's standing is determined independently in each program. Black American students can qualify for recognition and be honored as Scholars in both the National Merit Program and the National Achievement Program, but can receive only one monetary award from NMSC.
