AmeriCorps Apprenticeship Program: Public Allies CT- For Graduating Seniors in High School & College!!!!!

Spread the word… Public Allies CT is seeking motivated young local leaders to apply for our ten month AmeriCorps Apprenticeship Program!

Priority Public Ally Application Deadline is February 15th!
Final Deadline is March 30th.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Public Allies Connecticut is an AmeriCorps Program designed to develop the next generation of community and nonprofit leaders. We are currently seeking dedicated, service-minded young adults to begin 10-month paid apprenticeships in nonprofit organizations around Connecticut, with positions available in the greater New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport areas. The next class of Allies will begin in September 2011, but the application process starts now!

Our Allies change their lives and our community through a rigorous AmeriCorps program that combines full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofits with intensive skills training, active community-building projects, personalized coaching, and critical reflection. Allies will be placed in nonprofit organizations that address the following priority areas:

Education: Unmet educational needs within communities especially those that help children and youth achieve success in school and increase high school graduation

Healthy Futures: Unmet health needs within communities including access to health care, disease prevention and health promotion initiatives, and health literacy

Economic Opportunity: Unmet needs relating to economic opportunity for economically disadvantaged individuals within communities including financial literacy, housing assistance, job training, and nutritional assistance

Clean/Energy Environment: Unmet energy-efficiency and environmental needs within communities

Veterans: Unmet needs of veterans, members of the Armed Forces who are on active duty, and family members of deployed military personnel and engage veterans in service.

Allies serve 4 full-time days per week at a nonprofit placement where they work to assist one of the aforementioned priority areas, and attend all-day trainings each Friday with other Allies from around the state. Trainings are geared toward giving Allies the knowledge and skills they'll need to pursue a nonprofit career, such as grant writing, public speaking, community development, and teamwork.

Allies are passionate and diverse social change makers. The majority of our Allies are from our local community, and they share a deep commitment to strengthening Connecticut. Alumni continue on to careers in the nonprofit and public sectors, and about 95% of Alumni say they would participate again if they could.

Allies receive:
  • a living stipend of $16,500 (gross) over ten months,
  • an AmeriCorps education award of $5,350 upon completion of the program,
  • valuable professional development training, and
  • free basic health insurance.

We are now recruiting for the 2011-2012 program year! Our priority application deadline is February 15th, 2011, and final deadline is March 30th
