School of Business Undergraduate Programs Weekly Announcements

This newsletter will keep you up to date with opportunities to further develop your professional skills. Each time you take advantage of these opportunities you will be taking one step closer to building the best experience possible during your time at UConn.

Career Development in Business MGMT 3072 is now BADM 4072!!

Please note that Career Development in Business MGMT 3072 has been renumbered to BADM 4072.

MGMT 3072 will not appear on the class schedule. Please keep this change in mind when scheduling your classes.
Undergraduate Programs Office

The Undergraduate Programs Office is located in:
Room 121 in the School of Business building. It is open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Advisor Appointments
Freshmen and transfer students have been emailed to schedule their appointments. If you have not already done so, please schedule an appointment with your advisor as soon as possible.

Sophomores who missed their advising appointment or were not able to schedule one can schedule an appointment for after November 13th.

Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisors in their major. If you have questions for us, you may come in during walk in hours (see details below).

Dean's Signature
Procedures that require business students to request the Dean’s permission or approval are processed in the Undergraduate Programs Office. Please allow at least a week in time for review.

Walk-In Hours
The Office holds walk-in advising hours Monday-Friday from 2-3pm.
This time is available for non-business students with questions or those students who are not able to make an appointment during regularly scheduled advising times.

Walk-in advising is on a first come first served basis.
Undergraduate Programs Office Closings

The Undergraduate Programs Office will be closed on Thursday, October 22nd, and Friday, October 23rd for administrative purposes. Please plan accordingly.

Seniors Graduating in December 2009 - Don't forget to Apply for Graduation!

Have you submitted your Plan of Study?


If NOT, you must do so ASAP!

Here are the Steps for a Successful Graduation.

As a Business student, you must:
  • Submit a plan of study for your major and academic year, signed by your major faculty advisor during the first four weeks of the semester.

    Plans of Study are available in the School of Business, Room 121 or online at Plans of Study.

    For instructions on how to fill out your Plan of Study, please see Plans of Study FAQs.

  • "Apply to graduate" on Peoplesoft.

    Students at regional campuses may mail their signed Plan of Study to:

  • Would you like to be on the School of Business Class Gift Committee?

    The School of Business is looking for new members to join the Class Gift Committee for year 2009-2010!

    Any business student is eligible to join.

  • Help brainstorm ideas for the class gift fundraiser.
  • Get more involved in the School of Business.
  • Create ideas for the class gift.
  • Contribute to something that will help the school in years in to come.

  • New Entrepreneurial Marketing Course

    Consider MKTG 3753/BADM 3753, a new course in entrepreneurial marketing. It is available during the Spring 2010 semester as an elective to undergraduate juniors and seniors.

    Facilities Improvement Committee

    We are searching for School of Business students that would be interested in serving on a committee investigating ideas on improving the School of Business facility.

    The committee will consist of administration, faculty, staff, and student representatives at the Business School and will make recommendations for improvements and changes for areas of concern. The group will meet as needed throughout the year.

  • VITA Volunteers Needed

    The School of Business is working with Co-opportunity, a non-profit whose focus is helping low-moderate income families move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Volunteers from all majors are needed to assist with tax return preparation during the 2010 filing season. Using approved IRS training materials, we will provide all the training you need to become a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program!

    Training dates on campus are: (You must attend all 3 sessions)
  • Friday, October 30th – 9am-2pm
  • Friday, November 6th – 9am-2pm
  • Friday, November 13th – 9am-1pm

    Once trained and certified, you will be placed at one of 26 tax sites located in and around Hartford and Willimantic (in partnership with the Access Agency). We require volunteers to commit to a minimum of 1 four hour shift per week during the tax season which begins January 15th and ends April 15th. Sites are open during the day, in the evenings and on weekends, so we can accommodate any schedule.

  • December 3rd: Mentorship and Leadership by Business and Technology Innovations, LLC.

    Students who attend 3 out of the 4 sessions will receive a Leadership Development Certificate.
