School of Business Undergraduate Programs Weekly Announcements

For the week of October 1st - October 8th, 2009


This newsletter will keep you up to date with opportunities to further develop your professional skills. Each time you take advantage of these opportunities you will be taking one step closer to building the best experience possible during your time at UConn.

Undergraduate Programs Office

The Undergraduate Programs Office is located in:
Room 121 in the School of Business building. It is open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Advisor Appointments
Freshmen and transfer students will be emailed in October to schedule your appointment.

Sophomores who missed their advising appointment or were not able to schedule one can stop in during our walk-in hours (see details below) or schedule an appointment for after November 13th.

Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisors in their major. If you have questions for us, you may come in during walk in hours (see details below).

Dean's Signature
Procedures that require business students to request the Dean’s permission or approval are processed in the Undergraduate Programs Office. Please allow at least a week in time for review.

Walk-In Hours
The Office holds walk-in advising hours Monday-Friday from 2-3pm.
This time is available for non-business students with questions or those students who are not able to make an appointment during regularly scheduled advising times.

Walk-in advising is on a first come first served basis.
School of Business Annual Networking Forum

Business Students and Business Organization Students


Would you like to feel more comfortable interacting with members of the Business Community?

Do you want to practice your networking skills and make a few contacts in the process?

The School of Business in conjunction with the Alumni Association will be hosting a Networking Forum on the evening of:

  • Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
  • 6:30-8pm
  • Alumni House, The Great Room

    OPEN TO ALL BUSINESS STUDENTS OR BUSINESS ORGANIZATION MEMBERS.

  • Mingle with company professionals, other business students and society members while practicing your networking skills.

  • Practice how to interact with recruiters and company representatives.

  • Begin to feel at ease before you head out to job fairs and other events.

  • Gain some new valuable contacts.

    The evening is designed to be a low pressure event where you will gain experience speaking informally with professionals, build rapport, and eventually gain a valuable contact for your future career goals.

    Kelly Kennedy from the Business Career Center will give you helpful tips, such as:
  • what to wear
  • what your business cards should look like
  • how to start and end a conversation
  • what to talk about and not talk about

    Have you submitted your Plan of Study?


    If NOT, you must do so ASAP!

    Here are the Steps for a Successful Graduation.

    As a Business student, you must:
  • Submit a plan of study for your major and academic year, signed by your major faculty advisor during the first four weeks of the semester.

    Plans of Study are available in the School of Business, Room 121 or online at Plans of Study.

    For instructions on how to fill out your Plan of Study, please see Plans of Study FAQs.

  • "Apply to graduate" on Peoplesoft.

    Students at regional campuses may mail their signed Plan of Study to:

  • New Entrepreneurial Marketing Course

    Consider MKTG 3753/BADM 3753, a new course in entrepreneurial marketing. It is available during the Spring 2010 semester as an elective to undergraduate juniors and seniors.

    Business & Technology Major

    Are you seeking a major that combines a general business education with a special emphasis on the application of technology to modern-day business problems?

    If so, apply now to our Business & Technology major!

    The School of Business is now accepting applications for the Business & Technology major offered at the Greater Hartford, Stamford and Waterbury regional campuses.

    Applications are available at any School of Business program office location and will be accepted through Friday, October 9th, 2009.

  • Facilities Improvement Committee

    Do you have ideas on how the School of Business could improve its facilities?

    Would you like to share those ideas with the School Administration?

    Join the Facilities Improvement Committee


    We are searching for School of Business students that would be interested in serving on a committee investigating ideas on improving the School of Business facility.

    The committee will consist of administration, faculty, staff, and student representatives at the Business School and will make recommendations for improvements and changes for areas of concern. The group will meet as needed throughout the year.

    SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP INTERNSHIP STUDY ABROAD STUDENT SYMPOSIUM The University of Connecticut Study Abroad Program, Honors Program and School of Business partnered with Social Entrepreneur Corps to provide a unique 8-week program that integrates business and development theory with practice in an adventurous environment.

    The Social Entrepreneurship Symposium provides the University community an opportunity to hear first hand about the student experiences in their two month program with Social Entrepreneur Corps. Their presentations focus on how they applied their knowledge and practice of social entrepreneurship while working with local entrepreneurs in Guatemala and their analysis resulting in the allocation of actual funding for additional development efforts.
