This newsletter will keep you up to date with opportunities to further develop your professional skills. Each time you take advantage of these opportunities you will be taking one step closer to building the best experience possible during your time at UConn.

Undergraduate Programs Office - Walk-In Hours

The Undergraduate Programs Office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5pm. To schedule an appointment, please call 486-2315.

The Office holds walk-in advising hours on Monday-Friday from 2-3pm. This time is available for non-business students with questions and those students who are not able to make an appointment during regularly scheduled advising times.

Walk-in advising is on a first come first served basis.

Do you want to make a difference in the School of Business?

Apply to be a General Voting Member of the Business Leadership Council for the 2009-2010 academic year.


The Business Leadership Council functions as a valuable liaison between the student body and the school’s administration. The Council is interested in developing events that strengthen students’ experiences at the School of Business and will be making plans for 2009-10 involvement. With regular monthly meetings during the academic year, the voting seats will consist of two elected members of each business student organization and two voting seats from the general School of Business student body.

If you are interested in running for a General Member Voting Seat for the 2009-2010 academic year, please send the following to uconnblc@gmail.com:
  • your resume
  • a 250-word statement about your qualifications
  • an appropriate business casual photo

    You must be currently enrolled as a School of Business student to apply. The statements and photos submitted will be posted on our Business Leadership Council voting website.

    Voting will take place at the beginning of the fall semester.

  • New School of Business 2009 Class Gift

    For the first time, a group of graduating seniors has formed the School of Business 2009 Class Gift Committee and has initiated the School of Business Senior Class Gift 2009 campaign. Students voted and the class gift chosen was a walkway outside the stairwell door facing the Student Union. Plans are being investigated to see about implementing this project.

    But we need your help! To help fund the 2009 class gift, for every $20.09 contribution you make, you may request the donation honor a faculty, staff, friend or relative who had a positive impact on your during your years at UConn. Those honored will receive a Legacy Gift certificate in your name.

    Graduating Seniors - Mobile Computing Program News

    By now you should have received an email outlining your laptop options: exercise the buy-out or return. If you didn’t receive the email, please let us know at mobilecomputing@business.uconn.edu

  • Buy-outs can be completed on-line at http://www.genesiscapital.net/buy/

  • Returns: if not exercising the buy-out, you laptop MUST be returned to the Technology Center by Saturday May 9th

  • Seniors - have advice for the incoming freshmen?

    Want to share a piece of helpful information to leave behind to the incoming freshmen class?

    Share your thoughts by giving a piece of advice or two to be given to them next fall.

    You can make recommendations, such as:
  • getting involved in student groups or activities on campus,
  • how to select their courses,
  • what to do on the weekends,
  • how often to go home (or not),
  • a good lesson you learned along the way,
  • anything you think is helpful for them to know.

    Please email your advice to commencement@business.uconn.edu

    Include your name, major and hometown, which will be listed under your advice.

    Submissions will be reviewed for appropriateness.

    What should we call this project? Have a good name for this publication? Email it us!
  • Seniors - send us your photos for the Commencement Slide Show!

    Are you graduating this May or August?

    Would you like to have some photos included in the Commencement Ceremony photo slide show?

    Photos of your experience at the School of Business or other university activities will be projected in Gampel as friends and family gather before the commencement ceremony.

    Undergraduate Programs Office looking for student workers for Fall!

    Are you looking for a
    part time job on campus for next Fall?


    The School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office is looking to hire student workers for the fall semester. Great way to get involved in the School, meet faculty, staff and other students, and get to know what's going on in the School.

    Responsibilities include:
  • assisting students, faculty, staff, and parents who stop in the office with inquiries and questions;
  • answering the phone;
  • scheduling advising appointments;
  • filing;
  • database projects;
  • processing forms;
  • assisting with preparation for office events such as Open House, information sessions, GBLSS, and other office hosted events;
  • and other projects as needed.

    Preference given to those with work-study, but will consider student labor candidates.

    If interested, please stop in the Undergraduate Programs Office to fill out an application and turn in a resume. Please also provide your fall schedule of classes and hours you would be available to work.

    Are you interested in taking another business course?

    OPIM 1195 is a 3 credit business course that may interest you. There are two sections available:

    “OPIM 1195: MIS in Business – a Hands-On Introduction.” Specially designed for Freshmen/Sophomores, this is a good course to explore the role of Information Technology in Business and Society. This course also provides students an overview of topics such as E-Business, Social Media, Technology Tools and Technology & Law.

    Our class will be cover the Management Information Systems (MIS) major in two weeks.
