This newsletter will keep you up to date with opportunities to further develop your professional skills. Each time you take advantage of these opportunities you will be taking one step closer to building the best experience possible during your time at UConn.

School of Business Scholarship Applications now being accepted!

The School of Business is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Applications are available in the Undergraduate Programs Office, Room 121 in the School of Business.

Application deadline is Friday, March 6, 2009.

Graduating in May or August 2009?

Be sure to submit your Plan of Study to the Undergraduate Programs Office, Room 121 by Friday, February 13th

Also, review the Registrar's Office Steps to a Successful Graduation:.
  • You must "Apply for Graduation" in Peoplesoft.
  • Review your "Degree Progress Report" in Peoplesoft. Please note your catalog year at the top. Please use the plan of study that corresponds with that catalog year. (Plans of study for different years may have different requirements).
  • Complete the plan of study using the Degree Progress Report as a guide.
  • Meet with your faculty advisor to obtain his/her signature.
  • Bring the signed copy to the Undergraduate Programs Office, Room 121.
  • Are you seeking a major combining a general business education with an emphasis on the application of technology to modern-day business problems?

    If so, apply now to our "Business & Technology" major!

    The School of Business is now accepting applications for the Business & Technology major offered at the Hartford, Stamford and Waterbury regional campuses only.

    Applications are available at any School of Business undergraduate programs office location and will be accepted through Friday, February 20, 2009.

    Global Business Leadership Seminar Series

    Interested in International Business?

    Come hear our guest lecturers and their stories they have to share on topics relating to International Business.

    This Spring, the Global Business Leadership Seminar Series (GBLSS) will be held on the following dates:
  • Tuesday, March 24th at 6pm
  • Wednesday, March 25th at 7pm
  • Wednesday, April 8th at 7pm
  • Tuesday, April 24th at 7pm

    All lectures will be held in the Dodd Center Auditorium.

    Attend three of the lectures and earn a Certificate in International Business from the Undergraduate Programs Office.

    Refreshments will be served.

    Scholarship applications for all 2009 Accounting scholarships are available from Linda Petrofsky in the Accounting Department office; School of Business Room 417.

    Are you interested in going to Florence, Italy for six weeks this summer?


    Foreign Study Opportunity!

    Marketing in Italy with Prof. Han Srinivasan from May 14th to June 28th, 2009.

    You will earn six UConn graded credits in six weeks on this program, three each from the following classes:
  • MKTG 4903: Foreign Study: Marketing in Italy.
  • ARTH 3993: Foreign Study: The Art of Florence Exploring Visual Culture.

    You will also take several site visits.

    Application deadline: February 17th

  • Nutmeg Yearbook Business Manager Position

    The Nutmeg Yearbook is looking to fill the position of Business Manager beginning in the Fall of 2009 with a training period during the last month of the current semester. The requirements are that you are majoring in business and that you would be a junior or senior. (If you will be a senior next year you must be graduating in May 2010). Hours are very flexible and the pay is great!!

    Law and Business Society Meeting

    Our first guest speaker will be Professor Yalof who will be discussing, "the three things everyone must do before going to law school." Professor Yalof from the Political Science department will be our guest speaker. He first obtained his B.A. from the University of Virginia and later J.D. More recently (1997) he received a Ph.D. in Political Science from John Hopkins University. Working as both an attorney and professor, he offers an interesting perspective for the Law and Business Society.

    Jenny Mackenzie, Ph.D. will provide a motivational discussion on life lessions learned on the playing field, and what children can teach us about equality, fair play, and working together on teams, in classrooms, and in the workplace.

    Willimantic Brewing Co. Field Trip

    Willimantic Brewing Co. was founded in 1991 by David Wolner, a UConn graduate from the class of 1982. Voted as one of the best restaurant pubs in Connecticut, Willimantic Brewing Co also produces a variety of seasonal brews in their own in-house brewery.     This field trip will include a full dinner and a tour of the brewery.

  • Innovation Accelerator Makes a Call for UG Students - Summer 09 and Fall 09

    So what are your plans for this summer? This fall? Unique paid opportunities exist for bright, creative, entrepreneurially minded entrepreneurs-to-be at the Innovation Accelerator for the summer (May 11 to Aug 7) and for the fall (Aug 28 to Dec 11).
