UCRECC Capital Markets Update
On Friday, October 24, 2008, The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies held the Fall Capital Markets Presentation sponsored by the UConn Real Estate Center Council (URECC).
The event held at the Downtown Graduate Learning Center, opened with a catered lunch followed by a presentation by Jim Clayton, Director of Research of Pension Real Estate Association (PREA). Following the presentation, Jim opened a discussion with professionals in attendance.
We would like to thank Jim Clayton for his participation and all who attended in making this event such a success.

6th Annual UCRECC Alumni & Friends Football Game and Reception
On Saturday October 25th, approximately 150 people gathered in the Real Estate Center tent at Rentschler Field, East Hartford. Students, alumni and friends enjoyed food, beverage, and each other's company at the 6th annual University of Connecticut Real Estate Center Council event.
Students, alumni and friends had the opportunity to watch as the Huskies won a hard-fought 40-16 BIG EAST Conference victory over Cincinnati. The homecoming football game drew a capacity crowd of 40,000 fans to Rentscler Field. The win, which qualifies the Huskies as bowl-eligible, improves the Connecticut record to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. UConn Football is now ranked #25 in the Bowl Championship Series standings.

18th Annual Connecticut Commercial Real Estate Conference

This year's conference includes key note speaker Alan J. Cicchetti, State of Connecticut Deputy Commissioner of Banking. The Deputy Commissioner will speak on Connecticut's banking regulations and mortgage brokerage. Other topics will include an update on the Connecticut economy, current real estate legal issues, and commercial real estate markets in Connecticut.

Alumni Panel Discussion Set
On Wednesday November 19, 2008, the Real Estate Society and School of Business Alumni Association will host an Alumni Panel Discussion from 7:00pm-8:00pm, followed by an informal social hour with refreshments.
The panel will include alumni Thomas Kelley, '77, Managing Director of REIT, Babson Capital Management, Denise Stake, '90 & '96, Assistant Portfolio Manager, Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers , and Frank Sataline, '83, Senior Managing Director, CIGNA Investments. Professor Katherine Pancak will moderate the event.
Discussion topics will include the status of real estate capital markets, developing trends, and the impact of general economic conditions on the current real estate valuations. Student Breakfast Meetings
MBA Breakfast Meetings
MBA students meet bi-weekly to discuss the current market and share job and internship opportunities. Doug Roberts and Tom Farrell recently spoke to the first year MBA students about their internship experience. Doug interned at GE Real Estate during the summer and shared the departmental breakdown, and his duties within the Global Valuation Team (GVT) of GE Real Estate. GVT is responsible for the underwriting and financial analysis support on large real estate portfolio acquisitions and financing. Tom interned at Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers in research and REIT groups. Tom spoke of his involvement in working on various projects in different segments of the real estate industry.
Undergraduate Breakfast Series

On Thursday October 28th, 15 undergraduate students and interim director, Ray Kehrhahn, met for the Real Estate Society's first breakfast meeting to discuss the time line leading up to the current financial crisis. The Real Estate Society Breakfast Series will continue to meet bi-weekly to discuss hot topic issues in today's market.
