2008 Connecticut Housing Conference

The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies at the University of Connecticut hosted its 10th Housing Conference on May 8, 2008. The conference was sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Realtors®, the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, NewAlliance Bank and the Connecticut Chapter Appraisal Institute/Connecticut Appraisal Education Foundation.

The event drew nearly 110 attendees to the Hawthorne Inn in Berlin, making the conference a great success. At the forefront of the Conference was an examination of current trends and critical issues within Connecticut's housing markets.

Keynote speaker Lawrence Yun, Vice President and Chief Economist of the National Association of Realtors®, discussed the national economic impact of the housing market, while Todd P. Martin, President of Todd P. Martin, Economic Services, gave an economic overview of Connecticut. Carol A. DeRosa, Administrator, Residential Mortgage Programs, Community & Program Development & Marketing for the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority spoke on mortgage refinancing assistance programs. Colleen D. Lindroos, Legal Publications Manager at CATIC gave a Connecticut legislative update. The University's own John M. Clapp, a professor at the Center for Real Estate, presented on house prices and multi-family trends.

Heberger Retirement Event

The news is spreading fast, and you may be aware that Ned Heberger's circle of friends and work colleagues will be gathering on Thursday, June 12th at the Hartford Club to celebrate Ned's 50 years in the Connecticut commercial real estate industry and his retirement. Please Click here for the formal invitation and response card.

There is a special Ned Heberger Student Fund that is being established at the University of Connecticut Real Estate Center in honor of Ned.

Ned Often attributes his passion for the real estate and appraisal business to the UConn Real Estate Program and, more specially, his relationship with the late Dr. William N. Kinnard, Jr., a former Director and Founder of the Real Estate program at UConn. Knowing this background, Ned's friends felt establishing an endowed fund at UConn for the program he is so devoted to would be a special way of honoring both Ned and his career.

The Ned Heberger Student Fund is created to recognize the many contributions of Ned Heberger to the Connecticut real estate community over the past 50 years. Proceeds from the Fund will be used to offer scholarships and program support for the Real Estate Center here at the University of Connecticut's School of Business in honor of Ned.

If you know Ned, please consider joining us at the Hartford Club for what will surely be a fun and festive evening filled with stories and memories of Ned's distinguished career and making your own personal contribution toward the Ned Heberger Student Fund.
